Please join us for the launch of this year’s Community Arts Space as we celebrate some of Toronto’s most innovative emerging artists, curators, and architects. Learn about the partners involved in our free and full accessible summer program, and engage in hands-on activities:

  • Mosaic tile-making with Waterloo Architecture students as part of their What Makes a Space a Place? project
  • A showcase of tiles made by Two-Spirit/queer Indigenous community members as part of Mikiki’s NU_FORuMS performance work
  • Lobby brick donation, where visitors can donate bricks to be part of Xenia Benivolski and Su-Ying Lee’s Feminist Art Museum project
  • Display of objects made in a workshop led by artist Ness Lee as part of Madeleine Co.’s Works for Change
  • Performance by spoken word poet Nasim Asgari, a participating artist in soJin Chun and The Truth & Dare Project‘s Collecting Personal Archives project, and entertainment provided by Dre Ngozi

There will be a cash bar and food truck service by Food Dudes. Please RSVP to let us know you’ll be joining us for this exciting celebration!

About the Community Arts Space: Art is Change

The Gardiner Museum’s unique history and identity is rooted in the city,  but its future is increasingly shaped by those beyond the core cultural corridor. As space increasingly becomes a premium downtown, the Gardiner has collaborated with six cultural and community partners to consider how institutional outreach can be re-shaped by local artists, curators, and architects. Looking to the rapid high-rise developments happening within the Museum’s own Yorkville neighbourhood, the projects in Art is Change consider how the city’s unique and varied local histories of art and social activism can be re-mapped for the future.
