Family Sundays

Family Sundays

Every Sunday, 11 am to 3 pm

Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday? Well look no further! Join us for a fun day of family-friendly activities at the Gardiner.

Family Sunday activities are included with your general admission, and kids under 12 are always free.*

Family Sundays run from 11 am to 3 pm every Sunday, with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.

Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask our friendly front desk staff where they are taking place.

We look forward to seeing you here!

SUNDAY MAY 1, 2016  |  11 AM – 3 PM
CLAY

May 1

Mother’s day is approaching soon! Join us for Family Sunday and get a head start on your gift. Make a frame out of clay and decorate it with shapes and patterns. Then let your frame dry for a week, paint it, and add a picture.

SUNDAY MAY 8, 2016  |  11 AM – 3 PM
TILE PAINTING

May 8

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity to learn about the history and vibrant culture of Asian Canadians. This week, we'll celebrate Chinese culture by painting peaches and bats on tiles, two important symbols in Chinese culture used to decorate porcelain. Performances on the plaza at 12 and 1:30 pm by Dance Orient Company will make this day extra special.

SUNDAY MAY 15, 2016  |  11 AM – 3 PM
CLAY

May 15

Cats were first domesticated in the Near East around 1,200 years ago. Revered since Ancient Egypt, this popular feline is still a favourite house pet. If you count yourself among its fans, don’t miss this edition of Family Sunday when we'll be sculpting cats out of clay. Visit our second-floor porcelain galleries for inspiration.

SUNDAY MAY 22, 2016  |  11 AM – 3 PM
TILE PAINTING

May 22

This is the last week to see our special exhibition Beneath the Surface: Life, Death, Gold and Ceramics in Ancient Panama, closing May 29. Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into the world of Ancient Panama combined and take part in a hands-on tile-painting activity as part of Family Sunday. Join us at the lobby as we reproduce dancing caimans and serpents in motion, all inspired by the Coclé ceramic designs on display.

UNDAY MAY 29, 2016  |  11 AM – 3 PM
CLAY

May 29

This Sunday, as we anticipate summer, we'll be carving images into a clay surface and turning them into rings! What does summer look like to you? Come up with an image and then attach it to a ring made out of clay. Once it dries, you will be able to rock your ring to celebrate summer’s arrival.

* Children under 12 years of age receive free admission to the museum at all times. Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate in Family Sunday activities, and each accompanying adult must purchase a general admission ticket. Children cannot be left unattended at any time.
