Family Day

Every Sunday

Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday? Well look no further! Join our mascots Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Nicco, and bring the whole family to the Gardiner for family-friendly activities — free with admission! Kids under 12 are always free (with the accompaniment of an adult).

Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask our friendly front desk staff where they are taking place.

Family Days run from 11 am to 4 pm with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.

We look forward to seeing you here!

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

It's never too early for a Christmas tree! Come and visit our new 12 Trees exhibition and join us at our clay tables as we sculpt Christmas trees out of clay. Celebrate the “Joy of Creativity” as you look at the installation and draw inspiration from the different designers and artists. See you in the lobby!

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 22, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

In anticipation of Pixar’s new animated film, The Good Dinosaur, join us this Sunday at Family Day to paint dinosaurs on tiles. These large and fascinating creatures have been extinct for around 65 million years. Thanks to the work of paleontologists and scientists we now have a good idea of what dinosaurs might have looked like, but it is through painting and animation that these animals come alive in our imagination.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

If you haven’t seen Canadian Artist Kent Monkman’s installation yet, this Sunday is the perfect opportunity to visit with your family. You can then join us as we sculpt bison skulls out of clay with the help of a professional potter. Free with admission, kids and adults will be able to join our clay table in the lobby from 11 am to 4 pm.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 6, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

December 6

The 12 Trees exhibition is now on display! Come with your family and visit the different tree installations displayed throughout the museum. Don’t miss the giant 40-foot tree on the plaza! Continue the festivities and join us for our annual 12 Trees Family Day. Activities include gingerbread cookie decoration, a clay table, and festive ornament-making with sparkles, sequins, and more. Don’t miss out on this annual tradition!

SUNDAY DECEMBER 13, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

December 13

The excitement of putting up a Christmas tree is only equalled by the excitement of decorating it. How will you decorate yours? Think of some festive items for your tree or your home and join us this Sunday as we make Christmas ornaments out of clay. If you need inspiration, there are twelve tree installations throughout the museum to spark your creativity. See you at the lobby!

SUNDAY DECEMBER 20, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

December 20

There are many different ways in which to represent an object. Think of hearts, smiley faces, or even water. We will challenge you to paint a Christmas tree by breaking it down into as many shapes as you can. And you'll need to fit them all onto a tile! This Sunday, trees can come in different colors, sizes, and shapes.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 27, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM

December 27

Who doesn’t love cupcakes? This Sunday, sculpt small cupcake boxes at our Family Day table. You won’t be able to savour this particular one, but it will serve to guard your secrets, candy, or it can simply act as a fun decoration.
