Family Day

Family Day

Every Sunday

Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday? Well look no further! Join our mascots Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Nicco, and bring the whole family to the Gardiner for family-friendly activities — free with admission! Kids under 12 are always free (with the accompaniment of an adult).

Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask our friendly front desk staff where they are taking place.

Family Days run from 11 am to 4 pm with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.

We look forward to seeing you here!

UPCOMING FAMILY DAYS:

SUNDAY JULY 5, 2015 | 11 AM - 4 PM
PAINTING ON TILES

Family Day - July 5

This Sunday at Family Day we will look at different stained glass designs for tile painting ideas.

Soldered to one another, stained glass pieces are usually framed with strips of lead. The assembly of colored pieces and painted glass make this craft particularly recognizable. We will attempt to transfer some of the visual qualities of this craft as we paint tiles, focusing on both color and composition. Come and join us!

SUNDAY JULY 12, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
CLAY

Family Day - July 12

The world’s third largest multi-sports games have arrived to Toronto. 41 different countries will be represented in games that will include a variety of sports such as tennis, gymnastics, soccer and many more. This Sunday at Family Day, we will try to represent one of the 48 sports that will take place at the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games. Come to the Gardiner Museum and animate your favorite sport in clay. You will be able to experiment with clay’s plasticity as you convey movement and action in your sculpture.

SUNDAY JULY 19, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
PAINTING ON TILES

Family Day - July 19

What is your ideal landscape? Join us this Sunday for an afternoon of Chinese landscape tile-painting and try to recreate your own idea of nature. Relying on calligraphic brushwork and the use of a single color, Chinese landscape painting usually depicts the natural world as a place of retreat and harmony. Mountains and water, but also trees, bamboo, and rocks can all be part of your art work this Sunday. Recreate your ideal landscape in a tile. See you in the lobby!

SUNDAY JULY 28, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
CLAY

Family day - July 28

How about adding a little twist to that clay? This Sunday at Family day we will build coils of clay and twist them together to make different pieces. The recipe for this Sunday is fun and simple: roll, mix and twist. Bracelets, rings and even baskets can be made from this unusual tecnique. Don’t miss it!
