Family Day

Every Sunday

Free with Admission

Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday?  Well look no further! Join our mascots Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Nicco, and bring the whole family to the Gardiner to family-friendly activities — free with admission! Kids under 12 are always free (with the accompaniment of an adult).

Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask one of our friendly volunteers where they are taking place.

Family Days run from 11 am to 4 pm with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.

We look forward to seeing you here!

Upcoming Family Days:

NOVEMBER 2, 2014

Today is the second day of THE DAY OF THE DEAD or El Dia de los Muertos celebration from Mexico.  This celebration includes beliefs and traditions from both the Catholic religion and the ancient indigenous religious beliefs.  Join us for this important family and community harvest celebration and create your own Candelabra out of clay with ceramic artist Jessica.

NOVEMBER 9, 2014

“In Flanders Fields” written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae in 1915 added the symbol of the red Poppy to Remembrance Day traditions.   November 11th is just around the corner so why not join us in the lobby and paint a poppy on a tile to remember all those soldiers who fought to keep us free.

NOVEMBER 16, 2014

With winter just around the corner it is time to start thinking of all the fun sports and activities we can do outside.  Join our ceramic artist and volunteers to make your favorite winter sports equipment out of clay.  There are so many to choose from!

NOVEMBER 23, 2014

Only 38 days left until 2015! Wow does time ever fly! Speaking of flying, why not explore the museum and find as many animals as you can molded or painted on clay.  Recreate the flying animal on a tile out of acrylic paint.

NOVEMBER 30, 2014

Have you met our museum mascots yet? There are 4! Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Niccolo all have interesting backgrounds.  Learn about them from our volunteers and work with our potter to make your own character out of clay!

Light is an important part of the holiday season for so many cultures.  Join us at a family workshop and create your very own candle holder.   Let your imagination run wild.  Incorporate special symbols and colours into your piece all made of clay. Students will learn a variety of pottery techniques as well as glazing techniques while making their pieces. Ages 6 - 99.
