Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday? Well look no further! Join our mascots Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Nicco, and bring the whole family to the Gardiner for family-friendly activities — free with admission! Kids under 12 are always free (with the accompaniment of an adult).
Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask our friendly front desk staff where they are taking place.
Family Days run from 11 am to 4 pm with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.
We look forward to seeing you here!
SUNDAY APRIL 5, 2015 | 11 AM - 4 PM
If you know The Little Mermaid or The Red Shoes, you are already familiar with author Hans Christian Andersen. What you may not know is that the Dutch author behind so many popular fairy tales was also a skilled paper cut artist. Andersen’s fondness for paper took more than one shape, literally, leaving a playful and vast legacy of paper cuts designs. With book week’s celebration this week and Andersen’s birthday on April 2, paper in its different forms offers the theme for this Family Day. Join us this Sunday to make clay cuts using Andersen’s designs as a departure point. See you at the lobby!

PAINTING ON TILES
We rely on the alphabet so much that we can take it for granted, but the letters that we use every day to write and create sounds and meanings weren’t always around. The alphabet as we know it today has changed quite a bit over time.
Looking back at other writing symbols that have been used in the past, we note that people don’t always use an alphabet. The ancient Maya for instance, used symbols or hieroglyphs that represented sounds or words or a combination of both. This Sunday at Family Day, we will paint Maya glyphs in our tiles to create different meanings. Come and try!
SUNDAY APRIL 19, 2015 | 11 AM – 4 PM
This April 22 is Earth Day, a day for creating environmental awareness around the world. In anticipation of this date, this Sunday at Family Day we will make something special: join our clay table to make your own plant pot-face. Using clay, soil and seeds, you will be able to grow your own plant at home.

PAINTING ON TILES
Join us for the last Sunday of the month this Family Day at the Gardiner Museum and have some fun decorating your tile! We will try creating designs with only colored dots in our piece. Working with different colors, you will be able to make spirals, suns or stars. We will meet you at the lobby!
