Family Day

Family Day

Every Sunday

Ever wonder what to do with your family on a Sunday? Well look no further! Join our mascots Arabella, Ting, Clayton and Nicco, and bring the whole family to the Gardiner for family-friendly activities — free with admission! Kids under 12 are always free (with the accompaniment of an adult).

Most activities take place in the lobby, but if you don’t see us when you come in, just ask our friendly front desk staff where they are taking place.

Family Days run from 11 am to 4 pm with activities for children to do on their own or with an adult. Make sure you also check out our discovery boxes, do a scavenger hunt and take some colouring sheets home with you.

We look forward to seeing you here!

UPCOMING FAMILY DAYS:

SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2015 | 11 AM - 4 PM
PAINTING ON TILES

Family Day - July 5

How many faces can you fit into a tile? This Sunday, we will blow ink on tiles to create shapes in multiple colors and sizes. Let your tile come alive as you give expression to your ink blown faces. Remember, there can only be one of a kind, what will yours be like? Come and find out with your family!

SUNDAY AUGUST 9, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
CLAY

Family Day - July 12

Come down with your family and explore our Ancient America’s gallery.  Learn about the early cultures from central and South America, the people and their amazing accomplishments.  Take part in a scavenger hunt, see some artifacts up close and work with a ceramic artist to sculpt an animal out of clay.

SUNDAY AUGUST 16, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
PAINTING ON TILES

Family Day - July 19

Clay has served as a canvas for many contemporary artists, now it is your turn! For some great examples, visit our contemporary gallery. As you explore ceramic painting and sculpture, pay close attention to Sergei Isupov’s Lady Cat: what do you see? How many faces can you find? Are they animals? With keen observation you will be able to answer these questions and create your own piece at the lobby. Join us as we paint animals, humans, and why not, Humanimals?

SUNDAY AUGUST 23, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
CLAY

Family day - July 28

You may have painted on tiles, or you may have created something out of clay, but have you ever made a tile from scratch? Join us this Sunday to make clay tiles. We will decorate our pieces in a paper cut style, playing with geometrical designs and carving. To come up with different ideas, you can test cutting a folded paper. Open it up and try reproducing your designs in a fresh tile. Don’t miss it!

SUNDAY AUGUST 30, 2015  |  11 AM – 4 PM
PAINTING ON TILES

Family Day - July 19

Don’t miss the last day of the RBC Emerging Artist People’s Choice Award. This Sunday, we will visit the 3rd floor and after picking our favourite artist(s), we will make a piece to complement their installation. Remember, clay plays different roles throughout the exhibition! You can recreate an object or respond with your own idea.
