March 8 is International Women’s Day. on this day, women and men all over the world celebrate the achievements of women. To highlight the talent and work of women in ceramics, we will look at a piece in our own collection: join us this Family Day to make figures out of clay inspired by the work of Betty Woodman. Visit our contemporary gallery to have a look at Woodman’s piece, then join us at the lobby to create your own flowing plant by creating separate ceramic pieces. Happy International Women’s Day!

PAINTING ON TILES
St Patrick’s Day has arrived, and with it, a wave of green. A symbol of life, luck, and hope, green has more recently become the color of the environment. While the word green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, “to grow”, the color has been used by Egyptians and Greeks since antiquity. Copper green, however, was only introduced in Europe until the 15th century. If you are wondering what this may look like, come to Family Day this Sunday and discover multiple tones of green in our Maiolica section. Preserving its vivacity, the colors in these ceramic pieces will help you to paint a clover using different greens. You may also pick up some interesting information about ceramic painting in the Renaissance. See you at the lobby!

Spring is finally here! We have watched the year cycle once again, in which seasons and weather gradually give way to plant and animal life. With this theme in mind, we have decided to have some fun with seeds at Family Day. Come to the Gardiner Museum this Sunday and experiment first-hand the many possibilities of mixing clay with seeds. Besides their amazing power to reproduce plant life, seeds can add some color and texture to your piece. Come and check it out!
