December 11 - December 12, 2012
Each year a group of Schlifer clients participate in what has come to be known at the Schlifer as the Gardiner group. This unique trauma informed art therapy group runs for 11 weeks. The group is for women survivors of child sexual abuse/incest, adult sexual assault and intimate partner abuse. The women work with clay to produce a ceramic piece of art in reference to a common theme that is introduced in advance of their participation. Suzanne Thomson, an art therapist and Susan Low-Beer, a ceramic artist, facilitate the group. At the end of the 11 weeks, there is an opening night exhibition where group participants display their sculptures. The women are directly involved in the design and installation of the art exhibit, each time offering the public a unique and compelling window to their reflections on violence against women and their hopes for healing. Come join us for Consciousness Blooms, this year's Gardiner group art exhibit.
