Intimations by Chiho Tokita
April 8 to 30
Meet and Greet with artist on Monday April 11 from 3 - 4 pm

Chiho TokitaInterested in form and material, Chiho Tokita's work explores the sculptural possibilities of utilitarian objects, as forms unmoored from function but reminiscent of use.  Her practice lies in the space between functional ceramics and sculpture, using the vocabulary from one to speak the language of the other.

Her new work re-imagines the ceramic vessel as sculptural structures that are composed as much of what is not, as what is. The forms are gestural intimations of enclosing, holding, and sheltering, structures collaborating with empty space to speak about containment.

Chiho Tokita is a studio potter in Toronto. She recently spent two months at Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Centre in Skaelskor, Denmark.
