In conjunction with the exhibition Renaissance Venice: Life and Luxury at the Crossroads, this class reimagines the tradition of Italian maiolica decoration.
Beginners and accomplished painters alike are invited to explore dynamic brushwork and symbolic and narrative imagery on pottery, inspired by the Gardiner Museum’s world-renowned collection of maiolica and the works in the special exhibition. Learn wheel-throwing and hand-building approaches with the goal of creating smooth surfaces on which to explore maiolica painting techniques in the glaze stage.
