About The Artist

Denise Smith

Denise Smith is a ceramic sculptor from Thunder Bay, Ontario. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay (2010),  and her MFA from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan (2016). Smith has participated in several national and international artist residencies, including the Medalta Historic Clay District A.I.R. program in Medicine Hat, Alberta; the Clayarch Gimhae Ceramics Residency in Busan, South Korea; and the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China. She has presented lectures and workshops and exhibited her artwork across Canada and internationally. Each of her ceramic sculptures is a bucolic miniature landscape with a subtle twist. Upon close inspection, the viewer will notice strange details: clear cut forests, skunks foraging in dumpsters, or muskrats living in storm drains.
