Description
Silvana explores the relationship between surface and structure by working with the luminous character of thin porcelain walls. The process begins with mixing her own clay body of porcelain and cotton fibre. The cotton additive reinforces the clay so the hand built slabs can be very thin and will flex without cracking. During the kiln firing, the cotton burns out, resulting in lightweight, fully vitrified ceramic forms. The lamps are left unglazed to emphasize the translucency and fine embossing of the porcelain walls. Photo Gallery: Includes objects, artist(s) at work, mentor leadership and studio space/setting.
