Description

Silvana explores the relationship between surface and structure by working with the luminous character of thin porcelain walls. The process begins with mixing her own clay body of porcelain and cotton fibre. The cotton additive reinforces the clay so the hand built slabs can be very thin and will flex without cracking. During the kiln firing, the cotton burns out, resulting in lightweight, fully vitrified ceramic forms. The lamps are left unglazed to emphasize the translucency and fine embossing of the porcelain walls.  Photo Gallery: Includes objects, artist(s) at work, mentor leadership and studio space/setting.

Care & Use: Handle with care. Wipe with damp cloth only.  Electrical components are not waterproof.  The bottom of the lamps have a small cutout for the chord.  Display them flat on a surface.

Material: Porcelain fibre clay and candelabra light socket with white 6 inch cord with switch and LED bulb (40 or 60 watts).

Measurement (in.): D5 x H7.5

Weight (lb. & oz.): 3 pounds & 6.5 ounces

SKU: 058002

About The Artist

Silvana Michetti

Silvana Michetti lives in Toronto, Ontario. She studied Visual Arts at York University (BFA Honours Specialist) concurrently with Education (B.Ed.), and has taught visual arts in diverse settings and schools in Ontario. Travel and work in Europe has enhanced her appreciation for art, design, and architecture. Throughout her teaching career, Silvana has participated in workshops and taken courses whenever possible, exploring the potential of clay with functional, decorative, and sculptural investigations. Her recent work is focused on abstract sculptural forms that involve light and shade as an important element, combined with embossed textile patterns. The Creative Directions strengthened her commitment to her process and has allowed her to focus on a concept and explore it in depth, under the mentorship of Angelo di Petta and with the support of her peers.
