Thomas Aitken and Kate Hyde

About Thomas Aitken and Kate Hyde work from their studio in the village of Warsaw, Ontario. They collaborate on ceramics that unite Thomas’s strong forms and Kate’s interest in colour and surface embellishment. This work is made in porcelain and is designed to both highly practical and visually intriguing. The work is dishwasher and microwave safe. Their eclectic and playful imagery reference a variety of sources including the history of ceramics, theatre, poetry and textiles. Thomas holds a BFA:Ceramics, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada and Kate received her BA(Hons):Textiles from Middlesex Polytechnic, Department of Art and Design, London, UK. They met whilst studying at the Masters program in Ceramics, University of Wales Institute Cardiff, UK. Aitken and Hyde have participated in numerous annual juried shows, solo and group exhibitions in Canada, and also in Denmark, Australia, U.K, and U.S.A. They have undertaken many private and public commissions. Their work is held in public collections including: The Gardiner Museum, The Design Exchange and the Government of Ontario Art Collection. They have work in private collections in Europe, North America and Japan.
