Jai Sallay-Carrington
Jai Sallay-Carrington (they/them) is a Canadian sculptural ceramic artist, currently living in Vancouver BC. Jai has worked with clay since they were a child, and has built a career on exploring the medium to create figurative artworks of human and animal forms. In 2014 Jai graduated from Concordia University with a BFA. They have since traveled around Canada, USA, Asia and Europe to attend artist residencies and ceramic symposiums. As well as to install exhibitions and teach workshops. Jai earned their MFA at the University of Washington in 2023, receiving the De Cillia Graduating with Excellence award. Immediately followed by a year-long residency at Baltimore Clayworks to create their Trans Passions series, which was graciously funded by a grant from Canada Council of the Arts. Jai’s studio practice and travels continue, fueling their passion for uplifting the 2SLGBTQ+ community through exhibitions, fundraisers and other events.
