Description

I work with porcelain to create both sculptural and functional pieces. My practice is informed by biology, anatomy, the natural world, and science fiction.  I am particularly interested in the parallels between the human body, nature, and the material qualities of porcelain – its fragility, strength, plasticity, and translucency.

Through forms that feel both strange and familiar, I translate poetic and occasionally surreal ideas into physical objects.  As well as my sculptural artworks.  In doing so, I aim to offer alternative ways of understanding and appreciating our connection to, and impact on, the natural world. – Stephanie Flowers

Care & Use: Please wash by hand with dish soap only, then allow dry air or gently dry with a soft microfiber cloth. Do not place in the dishwasher. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal sponges. Avoid exposing the piece to extreme temperature changes (such as going from boiling to freezing).

All functional work, including vases, should be handled with care. When transporting or storing, take extra precautions to protect the thin pleated sections, as they are the most delicate.

Material: Porcelain using custom paper clay formula

Measurement (in.): D6.5 x H3.25

About The Artist

Stephanie Flowers

Stephanie Flowers is a visual artist working in porcelain from her studio just outside Montreal, in Longueuil, Quebec. She has been making art for as long as she can remember – ever since she first picked up a pencil and it has remained a constant in her life. While pursuing her BFA in Sculpture and Installation at OCAD University in 2008, she began to focus more deeply on ceramics, drawn to the medium’s endless versatility. For over a decade, she has continued to develop her practice, gaining experience across a range of settings, including artistic residencies, assisting in various artists’ studios, and working in a mosaic public art fabrication studio.
