Description

Valentina Guevara creates stoneware, wheel-thrown vases enhanced with hand-built elements, using clay as a material for exploration and transformation. In this new body of work, layers of colour and texture are built through an intuitive, responsive process. The work embraces unpredictability and allows the chance to play an active role. The forms have grown larger and more sculptural. Mess, chaos, and unresolved surfaces are intentionally present. Through this approach, she draws quiet parallels between the physical and emotional processes of ceramics and motherhood.

Each artwork is hand crafted and will slightly vary in weight, size, colour, and style.

About The Artist

Valentina Guevara

Valentina Guevara is a Mexican, Toronto-based ceramic artist whose practice began over twenty years ago while studying ceramics at university. Her work is rooted in material exploration and long-term engagement with clay as both process and language. Motherhood had a profound impact on her practice, reshaping her relationship to time, control, and making. This shift opened her creative process to unpredictability, interruption, and chaos. Through ceramics, Guevara embraces these conditions as generative forces that inform the form and spirit of her work.
