Clay & Bloom: Ikebana Sogetsu & Vase Making Workshop

Explore the interplay between form and nature in this 5-week intermediate workshop blending ceramic practice with Sogetsu school of Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement. The workshops will be guided by Magdalena Tamura-Reid and Teiji Reid of IWAYA.WORK and ceramics instructor Annika Hoefs. Using hand building and wheel throwing, each participant will have the opportunity to make up to two (2) ceramic works.
This class includes stoneware clay, firing of two (2) works, and floral materials for your final arrangement. Additional Ikebana materials will be available for purchase.

- Please ensure the course you choose works with your schedule. For any withdrawals, a non-refundable fee of $50 fee per course will be charged, regardless of the reason for withdrawal. Instructors
IWAYA.WORK
Magdalena Tamura-Reid has been a dedicated practitioner of Sogetsu ikebana for over 20 years, finding endless inspiration in this elegant floral art form. Her passion extends beyond practice—she actively demonstrates, exhibits, and teaches ikebana throughout the Greater Toronto Area. For more than a decade, Magdalena has devoted her energy as Chair of the Ikebana Iwaya Fund (a non-profit providing grants to support ikebana) where she leads efforts to promote and expand the reach of ikebana. Her mission is to cultivate a growing community of practitioners and deepen public appreciation for this unique art. She is an active member of the Sogetsu Toronto Branch and an advocate for Ikebana International’s over 60 chapters in the North and Central America Region.
Teiji Reid, Magdalene’s son, is a visual artist currently focused on painting, new media, and physical language.
Ceramics Instructor
Annika Hoefs
Annika Hoefs is a Toronto-based artist and educator, specializing in ceramics. She holds a Bachelor of Material Art and Design from OCAD University where she initially focused on textiles, but graduated with a full concentration in ceramics. Alongside her studio practice, she has been teaching ceramic classes to students of all ages and skill levels since 2016. Annika’s functional and sculptural ceramics can be found in select gallery shops, restaurants, and luxury hotels, locally and internationally.
