For ages 18+

Discover practical ways to work with ceramic tiles in this stoneware class. Use traditional hand-building techniques to create a set of coasters, a large trivet, and decorative magnets while learning all the essential tile-making techniques, including how to dry tiles flat to prevent warping as well as underglazing and glazing. You’ll come away with a collection of handmade items perfect for your home or to give as gifts. This 6-week class is designed for all levels.

This class includes access to one 5kg bag of stoneware clay, as well as glazes and underglazes. Additional bags of clay can be purchased for $18 each.

Class Outline:

  • Week 1: Design time and introduction to tile making and hand building
    Learn proper drying techniques to keep tiles flat and warp-free
  • Week 2: Complete coaster set
    Begin trivets
  • Week 3: Complete trivets
    Learn about glazing techniques
  • Week 4: Make magnet set
  • Week 5: Complete all glazing and prepare pieces for once-firing
  • Week 6: Final class show and pick up of items

  • Please ensure the course you choose works with your schedule. For any withdrawals, a non-refundable fee of $50 fee per course will be charged, regardless of the reason for withdrawal. Withdrawals will not be accepted for any reason within 10 business days prior to the program start date or after the program has begun.

Instructor

Meg Leslie


Meg Leslie is a Canadian mosaic and ceramic artist. Her work is deeply rooted in nature, storytelling, and community. With a background in interior design and a Master Naturalist certificate, she brings a layered approach to her art, blending structural and organic, personal and ecological. Her practice has evolved from large-scale pique assiette public mosaic installations to more intimate explorations in handmade porcelain tiles. Over the past decade, she has led numerous community art projects, workshops, and creative initiatives across Ontario.
