Experience the joy and physicality of working with clay on a large scale! In this workshop, Gardiner Museum Artist-in-Residence Grace Han will share the unique Korean Onggi methods she uses when creating large vessels, including large slab-making without a slab roller, large coil making, paddling, slab throwing, coil throwing, and dry throwing. Participants will have the opportunity to use handmade Onggi tools in the making process.

Recommended for intermediate and advanced potters, but open to all experience levels.

About the Artist


Grace Han is a ceramic artist originally trained in Seoul, South Korea. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Dankook University, specializing in traditional Korean ceramic techniques and skills. She later gained valuable experience by working for several years at one of the largest ceramic companies in Korea, further enhancing her knowledge outside of academia. Upon immigrating to Canada, she pursued her Master of Fine Arts from University of Manitoba where she currently teaches ceramics as an Assistant Professor.
