What’s On / Programs & Events / Virtual Artist Talk with Halima Cassell

Thursday May 23, 2024
12:00 – 1:00 pm EDT

Tickets are PWYC starting at $5

Featured artist Halima Cassell will present an artist talk via Zoom discussing her work presented at the International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF). She is represented by Joanna Bird Contemporary Collections in London, UK.

Halima Cassell’s intuitive understanding of the physical nature of the material she uses is key to her multi-faceted practice. Her carved sculptures speak volumes of the fluency she achieves–with their playful manipulation of tapering planes, hollows, and voids. Her work is a visual feast of symmetry and natural beauty.

About the Artist

Born in 1975 in Pakistan, brought up in Lancashire, England, and now living in Shropshire, England, Halima Cassell’s varied, multicultural background is tangibly present in her work. Recognized as one of the most distinguished, dynamic sculptural ceramicists in the United Kingdom, Halima won the Brookfield and Crafts Council award at Collect (2024), in recognition of her significant contribution to the national story of contemporary craft. She was also awarded an M.B.E. in 2022 for her outstanding achievement in services to the arts. Her recent publication, “Halima Cassell 25,” documents her twenty-five-year journey and development as an artist up to the present time. Halima has been represented at Collect and in the United States by Joanna Bird for twelve years, during which time her work has been acquired by numerous national museums.
