Kiefer Floreal

Emerging ceramic artist Kiefer Floreal lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He began working with clay in high school and has been largely self-taught since then, shaping his practice through steady exploration and studio time. His pottery finds a balance between function and decoration, influenced by his grandmother’s home where objects carried both purpose and presence. Kiefer’s practice includes functional soda-fired pieces, non-functional sculptural work, and a line of fish-printed “gyotaku” pots: a process he first began in Kenora, Ontario, where he is from. Many of these pots are printed with walleye he catches himself at Lake of the Woods, connecting his work directly to place.
