Description

Artist Statement:

“Chemin Du Roy: An Ancestral Path” is a visual saga chronicling my paternal grandmother’s family and their settlement journey dating back to 17th century Quebec to the present day. My aim was to create a personal narrative of immigration, French Canadian heritage and familial bonds based on genealogical research, conversations and shared memories. These precious conversations with my parents and my interpretations of their histories are helping us all to deal with their loss of memory while celebrating their life’s achievements. The artwork employs
features akin to “The Game of Life”, inviting viewers to reflect on their own life path. The game unfolds chronologically, starting with the ship Taureau landing on the shores of L’Ange Gardien, Quebec and culminates with retirement options and the final tallying of accumulated assets laid and discarded upon the game board. “Chemin Du Roy” stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of family and the preservation of heritage.. – Jacquie Blondin
