Description
Artist Statement:
I am exploring the relationship between structure and surface by working with the luminous character of porcelain in which the hand built abstract shapes function as vessels for light. The structural forms have evolved from my interest in architecture, garment patterns, shells and leaf curls, and I am incorporating the flow of water currents in my most recent work. Textural surfaces are influenced by textiles, weaving and basketry, in which structure and surface are integrated. This series of light sculptures investigates how vitrified porcelain responds to light: reflected in the visible interior spaces and passing through the thin walls to reveal imprinted patterns. – Silvana Michetti
