Description

This issue of Studio Magazine is about the connected nature of craft: how craft builds relationships between people, communities, and generations. Craft builds on tradition, using it as a foundation to further explore the possibilities and relationships between history and modernity. Forging links between generations of makers, craft acts as the central pillar from which contemporary expressions build. From materials to storytelling, craft transforms how we make and how we experience the world around us.

The vital importance of craft is celebrated in this issue.  From craft traditions to teaching legacies, to proclaim the transformative impact of craft, and from medium to message. Cross-generational links of mentorship ensure the continuity of skills refined over many years of studio practice and experimentation.  Which is then gifted to peers and emerging makers. Craft can shift, transform, and overcome boundaries through generosity and the permeability of skill that can be applied across disciplines. Craft carries knowledge and culture through care and intention. It is an investment of time, skill, and community that invites a mindful participation. Resonance requires a reciprocal relationship as it builds.  This is how community is made, through an ever-expanding network of knowledge that each person shares with others. Craft is an ever-expanding process of world-building; we are building the world we want to make.
