Artist Statement:

I explore the intricacies of hidden worlds, examining the preciousness of time and our interconnectedness with the natural world and each other. I am interested in quiet, curved forms, which provide me focus for the time intensive and meditative process of carving. The incising is intended to be accentuated by the interplay of light and shadow. My work draws from intricate patterns in nature—waterways, root structures, tendrils, leaf venation—conjuring a visual representation of the tangible and the intangible connecting. With these pieces, I hope to inspire moments of stillness and contemplation, to invite presence of mind, and to offer a reprieve from the bustle of our times. – Talia Silva

About The Artist

Talia Silva

Talia Silva is a Toronto-based ceramic artist and designer who creates hand-built and slip-cast functional and sculptural pieces. She studied environmental design at the Ontario College of Art and Design where she was introduced to the process of slip casting. Finding solace in the tranquil and awe-inspiring wilderness, she consistently seeks moments of immersion to draw inspiration for her art. Talia’s work has been commissioned for hospitality, residential, and retail environments in Canada, the United States, China, and the United Arab Emirates.
