Join us live for Virtual Family Day with arts educator Sam Hill, and get creative in your own home! This week, we’re making cardboard figures inspired by the Gardiner Museum’s amazing collection of pottery from the Ancient Americas. The activity will be followed by a reading of one of our favourite art story books.

What you’ll need:

  • Cardboard, Bristol board, or cereal box
  • Pencil, markers, pencil crayons
  • Scissors
  • White glue or tape

Optional:

  • Air-dry clay (optional)
  • Craft paint (optional)
  • Cup of water
  • Popsicle stick or clay tools
  • Paint brushes

Meet your instructor:

Educator Sam Hill

Toronto-based artist Sam Hill holds a Honours BA in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto and Sheridan College, with a certificate in Curatorial Studies. She has won awards for Excellence in Art Education in the School and Community and Faculty Painting Awards for Excellence in Painting.

Since 2017, Sam has worked as an arts and crafts facilitator for the Gardiner Museum’s Family Day programs. She has also volunteered with the Textile Museum and The Blackwood Gallery through education internships, and assisted with photography lessons for children in a camp setting.

Although her specialty lies in painting and drawing, Sam has experience producing art through multiple mediums including but not limited to print media, digital and film photography, video editing, graphic design, pottery, jewellery making, costume design, bookbinding, and sculpture. She is always exploring new creative ways of producing artwork.
