Quick Fire: 5 Questions with August Fröhls

The August Fröhls collective (led by artists/curators Aman Sandhu and Swapnaa Tamhane), one of our six Community Arts Space partners, speaks to the importance of art and storytelling.

Why is it important for public spaces to make room for “art-making”?

It’s important in order to provide accessibility for a wider audience that might be intimidated to enter a museum. We are excited by the opportunity to marry both a downtown crowd and the GTA.

Art needs to be ____, _____, and ____ in order to incite change.

Inclusive, political, educational.

How can art bring a community together?

Through socially engaging content.

Describe the intended impact of your project in one sentence.

We will bring to the forefront the multitude of peripheral histories that exist in Toronto.

Without art ____ (finish this sentence)

Many stories will be lost in the peripheral.

AUGUST FRÖHLS is one of this year’s Community Arts Space: Art is Change partners. They will be presenting a series of free programming from August 9 to 30 in an outdoor installation on the plaza inspired by the portable classroom. Learn more and register here.
